Central Virginia Greyhounds
CVGreys is a non-profit organization founded in 2002 as an adoption agency for retired racing greyhounds. We placed over 125 greyhounds in loving homes in less than five years but in 2007, we made the decision to focus our energies on our GATE program and to stop doing adoptions. GATE stands for Greyhound Activities, Therapy & Education. We will organize various greyhound activities (such as the Greyhounds R.O.C. Dessert Party and walks and hikes around Central Virginia). We will have training programs so that more greyhounds become Canine Good Citizens and registered therapy dogs. And we will educate the public about the adoptability of retired racing greyhounds and direct them towards adoption groups who can help them find the right greyhound for their home and family. We hope to be an organization that "bridges" the gap between the various adoption agencies and to act as a "meeting place" for adopters from all of the groups.
